Koshi Tappu wildlife reserve Safari is one of the best ways to observe and explore the abundance of wildlife in the Terai region of Nepal. Migratory birds and plenty of grasslands to walk through are major highlights of this wildlife reserve. The wildlife reserve is home to 350 species of birds and several other wild beasts among which water buffalo are the highlight to watch here. The reserve center covers an area of 175 sq.km and is named after the biggest river of Nepal the Koshi. The river flowing within the reserve is home to rare Gangetic Dolphins and a hot spot for observing rare Fishing Cat and wild Buffaloes along with Gharials and other several reptiles.
Walking through the jungle of this wildlife reserve is the best way to get familiar with the wilds. Itinerary
Day 1Flight to Biratnagar OR drive from Kathmandu to Koshi Tappu
- Take a flight to Biratnagar(45 mins) or simply drive to Koshi Tappu (385Km, 8 hrs. drive)
- Upon arrival, transfer to hotel for overnight stay
Day 2Full day wildlife activities in Koshi Tappu wild life reserve
- Wake up early in the morning, have your breakfast and start the day with the excursion on a boat
- After that, get into the Jeep for a safari in deep forests, visit to Pink tower for observing the mesmerizing views
- Cultural dance performance followed by barbeque dinner
- Overnight stay in Koshi Tappu
Day 3Full day wildlife activities
- After a delicious breakfast, walk inside the reserve passing by scrub forest, wetlands, grasslands observing the various birds
- Continue the birdwatching until lunch and after that enjoy the elephant back ride to watch the wild water buffaloes.
- Overnight stay in Koshi Tappu
Day 4Explore surrounding villages and visit to Baraha Chhetra
- Wake up early in the morning and get into the bus for a visit to Baraha Chhetra- a pilgrimage site just 5Km away from the Koshi Tappu
- Pay a visit to this pilgrimage site and have breakfast
- A whole day exploring the surrounding areas of the Koshi Tappu wildlife reserve
- Overnight stay in Hotel
Day 5Departure
- After a memorable wildlife trip in the Koshi Tappu, wave goodbye to the reserve and board on a bus for drive back to Kathmandu
